Default Arena Football -- Shutout

NY is presently being shutout, losing 47-0 to Dallas with 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. How impressive is this compared to shutting a team out in the NFL? It is shocking that a team has not scored once on a 50-yard field in 41 minutes.

Apparently, this would have been only the 2nd shutout in league history. Too bad NY managed to get a TD.

I think a shutout for a half in arena ball is 10 times more impressive than an NFL game shutout.

I don't think anything in Arena football is impressive as anything in real football.

I think Nomo's no-hitter at Coors is even more amazing than AFL shutout. He should be in the HoF for that alone.

It's not just the shorter field. Arena football has severe restrictions on how defence can be played.

One linebacker must stay in the box. There is a limit on the number of players that can blitz and they must be declared ahead of time. The offence can have a man moving toward the line of scrimage at the snap, but the defence can't. And they require 6 (out of 8) players to play both offence and defence.

These rules make arena football almost unwatchable, but they do make a shutout extremely impressive.

I watched a little of Chi-KC today, at one point they were talking about different offensive packages teams can use this year implying this rule no longer exists.

Free substitution is allowed now.

This is the only Arena football rule I liked. They need to allow more defensive freedom. That would make the sport watchable.

You need to post more about how much you dislike Arena football. Maybe in every thread about it or something close is doable.
