Re: Take the last chip?
At the poker table, you always want to make +EV plays. And sometimes +EV plays do not involves cards or chips. For example, it is usually -EV to berate a donkey. You want him a) happy, and b) to make the same play in the future.
Leaving the guy with his last $5 may have been a better play EV-wise. I don't know since I wasn't there, but I'm sure you can reflect on that thought. |

Re: Take the last chip?
i sometimes do the same but in completely different situations. But anything to keep the fish in the tank do it.
The unrelated act i do sometimes when i sit down to a volitale table i'll call bb before it's my turn to sit down, and bet more then i usually will. Just another thing to help your table persona and hopefully get you paid off in some way. I voted take it all, but I would leave the last one after reading this, even though before i would auto put him in for the last chip. I might not next time, and get the guy to play back at me and take another one of his stacks 300-5 not bad. |

Re: Take the last chip?
This is in MI and there aren't many tourists here and it wasn't a very lighthearted, friendly, cheerful table. If it was Vegas I could see that, but I like the idea of betting it in the dark. Also, as someone else mentioned, why in the hell didn't he go all in instead of saving $5? I guess that shows that he isn't too experienced, which would argue for not taking every penny...hmm

Re: Take the last chip?
it really doesn't matter. i don't think saving the extra five dollars will change the person's attitude either way. for what it's worth, i always toss the extra five dollar bet in. hell, he might fold a hand that is drawing live against you.

Re: Take the last chip?
Interesting point and I did actually see a guy fold an all in bet for another (his last) $15 at one point after he already put in about $100!! It was in a $1-2 game
