I have a feeling she's more concerned with the amount of time you spent and will be spending sitting in front of the computer than she really is about you "gambling". And by definition, when you risk nothing you aren't gambling. You have nothing to loose and alot to gain. Would she against you entering some dumb free contest to win $35k if it was a local radio station putting it on? Surely not.

If she plays the lottery and a card game for quarters, she's gambling. Playing a freeroll poker tourney is not. If she won't admit to these hypocrisies then you are fighting a battle you'll never win. Although with women you are usually fighting a battle you'll never win.

I'd play the tournament and tell her you'll spend some quality time with her once it's over. Then do it. Also do not seem very "results oriented" about the tourney. That way if you bust out, you can say you still had a good time challenging yourself etc.

Let us know how you do. Good luck.

Your wife is a female, there is no convincing her. Whatever she says is right. Just deal with it.

OK. Here is the follow-up. She had no problem letting me play. There were 644 players and I busted out after three hours, finishing in 90th place. Had to make top 63 to be in the money. She said she is more concerned that online poker is somehow "rigged" and, believe it or not, she is less concerned if I just try my luck at the local Bay-101 casino. I've only played live tourneys twice. The second time was at Bay-10 for the Shooting Star, but I entered late & started with just two chips, LOL! So, that discussion was actually a plus and I guess something good came out of this even though I didn't cash. Thanks for the input.

Sir, what you need to do is go to a friend's house and play from there. Wifes don't understand poker. They really don't. My wife bitches all the time about it. "Bear, if we need money, go get another job," etc. Plus, she's Russian, which just makes the bitch-fest worse (Russian women are beautiful, so there must be a reason why Russian men consume so much vodka....that would be the reason). However, she has no problem go to Macy's or Nordstrom's and spending the money I earn playing poker. It's a paradox. Anyhow, I just play when she's not home or I go to a friend and play/work from there.

Its easy as I was in a similar situation to you.

If you are a winning player, show her the proof. Once I layed out my spreadsheets, she understood a lot better and was much more understanding.

If you are a losing player, maybe you should take her advice

Q; Why did you divorce her?
A; She wouldn't let me play poker

You should attend some GA meetings.

Q; Why did you divorce her?
A; She's too stupid to realize the difference between very different things.

She should attend grade school again.
