Re: Pick your salary
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Thremp, "Cool. Glad you plan on never having a family nor leaving your house on your 1.4mil. Enjoy!" You're just trolling now, right? You're saying you can't retire nicely on 1.4M post-tax? Come on, man, that is a joke. [/ QUOTE ] While in your 20s? [/ QUOTE ] I'll have no problems whatsoever living on $70K a year pretax (5%). I'll even save a good amount of that. At my last job I made way less than that and lived comfortably on Long Island, and still saved 25% for retirement. |

Re: Pick your salary
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure if the people who are confident that they could live on $2500 or the idiot who thought you couldn't retire on 1.4M unless you were 60 amuse me more. No handouts from anyone includes the government, which means it's straight park benches and terrible diseases for you, along with the chance of crime victimization. And that [censored] would go on for 2 years! It better be a very temperate and crime free area to make this close. If you can't retire on 1.4M after taxes you're probably the main character of a "My Super Sweet Sixteen." Buy a decent house, live middle class life until you die. [/ QUOTE ] Yup. Most of this thread is way off. |

Re: Pick your salary
Even if the 1.4 doesn't suit your lifestyle, work a few more years and you'll be in pretty solid shape.

Re: Pick your salary
[ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure your chances of dying would be greater then 50% in the first year with 2500$. If not dying, then at having your health damaged to the point of not being able to work. 7$ a day for food? Good luck. [/ QUOTE ] What about bennies? Are we getting health/dental? This would make a huge difference. |

Re: Pick your salary
Am I the only one that would absolutely take this if allowed to chose my location in order to subsistence farm?

Re: Pick your salary
I grew up in Hawaii. If allowed to pick the place, I could live in a tent near the beach and fish/spearfish for food. It wouldn't be a fun few years of poverty, but it would be doable. Not having to contend with a cold winter makes this way more feasible.

Am I the only one that would absolutely take this if allowed to chose my location in order to subsistence farm? [/ QUOTE ] So you'd find time to farm in addition to your full time work schedule? Not to mention the cost of actually farming? What land are you farming on? |

Re: Pick your salary
here's another problem with the exponentially doubling salary - after year 14 when you're making 10.24m, you're making so much money you won't want to retire. year 17- 82M. year 20 about 756m. year 23 about - 6.28 billion. You're going to keep saying, "well, I'd like to retire, but they're paying me 6 billion dollars!" At year 28 they're paying you 192 billion dollars.
