Default Windows XP Pro vs Vista Business

I'm going to reformat my computer and will be using one of these. My school legally provides both to students for free so I can choose either. Please don't tell me to switch to Linux or something, lets just keep this XP vs Vista.

So is there any reason I should not upgrade to Vista? I remember when XP first came out, lots of people hated it. Now pretty much everyone who uses windows uses it. Anyone with extensive knowledge of Vista that can tell me if there are any serious flaws that should convince me to stick with XP?

If your computer is over a year old or has less than 2GB RAM, you'll probably be happier sticking with XP Pro as it seems the only thing Vista does is slow everything down. Personally, I won't consider upgrading to Vista until Microsoft stops supporting it (i.e. the weekly security patches).

I switched to vista a couple of weeks ago. And at this point it's definitly a mistake. I have a pretty decent computer AMD 3800+, 2GB RAM, 256MB gfx and vista was slower than XP. If you turn all the eyecandy off it becomes usable. The main problem is that i experienced crashes all the time. MSN messenger crashed, PT crashed, PA crashed; it was really annoying. I'm back on XP now. Listen to what other people say, it's not worth it.
