Default Resolution Probelms

Hopefully this is the right forum.

Anyway, I'm currently using a Dell 2007 FP that supports 1600x1200 resolution. However, this morning my monitor wasn't displaying anything, so I rebooted. After doing so, my computer is automatically restarting in 800x600 resolution and only 4 bit. When I go to display property settings, it no longer allows me to slide from 800x600 to 1600x1200. The same goes for moving from 4bit. They are locked and the only options available.

Anyone know how I can get it back to normal with a higher resolution/bit? Thanks in advance

SG

sounds like somehow your drivers got corrupted or uninstalled.

go to the manufacturer of your card's site and download the latest drivers and after you reboot, etc it should be fine after you change the settings.

If simply installing the drivers doesn't work, try uninstalling the current ones first.

Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

Depending on the chipset and manufacturer, the name of the drivers in this list will differ. Probably be something like ATI or nVidia device drivers.

Just install that and reboot. Windows should install some default drivers from the OS and display a small resolution that you can change.

After that it is probably a good idea to install the drivers from either the card manufacturer's site, or the chipset manufacturer's site.
