Is there any legitamate way to possibly get my money back? Everyone at my local casino now knows that he is a scumbag, but he apparently doesnt care. I could kick his ass or get someone else to do it, but I just want my money back. Its not so much the money,(although it is a lot) but the principle and it drives my crazy just thinking about it.

you have to decide how bad you really want the money.....is it worth 10k never to deal with this jerk again? you will have a very hard time legally proving he owes you the 10k, as you said yourself you guys lent each other money many times and made no special note of it.....personally this would eat away at me, how can you let this [censored] walk all over you...i would start [censored] with his job/car/gf...if he was broke then i wouldnt be as pissed, but you state he has a job and is actually playing poker.

You could take him to court (small claims would only get you 5k though). If what you posted was the entire truth, it's pretty obvious this was a loan and you expected your money back.

visit him at work and make his life uncomfortable. out him as unreliable amongst common gambling connections. speak with his wife, ftw?

[/ QUOTE ]

Why don't you write him a heartfelt letter while you're at it.

It's face poundin' time.

[/ QUOTE ]

i've been here before 17.8k with a "good friend." my tactics didn't work for me (though services were offered to pound for 10%, i passed). personally, i wouldn't escalate so quickly. the wife comment was a joke that his wallet was being managed... f his wife for the 10k for all i care.

I know of several people who he has told that he owes me money. He has never denied that he owes me money. Would it be possible to take him to small claims court? Are there any fees associated with that? What would the court do if I won, but he did not have all the money in hand? Would the court just take money from his check until I was paid in full? I would love to know if someone has ever gone through this process. Thanks

Actually its not that it's necessarily hard to prove the loan was made- it's the fact that a lawsuit is probably the end of the friendship.
That said- you have two choices.
1) Let it go and see if he pays.
2) Sue him.

Neither is very appealing- but this is why I no longer loan friends money beyond something I won't care about.
