A bit off topic, but if you were counting would having one of these, and referring to it from time time, throw the watchers off for a while? Just curious.

well, 99% of casino BJ players don't even know to use basic strategy, so showing the card would probably still draw more attention to you overall than not using it. anything on the player's side of the felt that isn't a chip, comp card, drink, napkin or ashtray will catch a floorperson's eye fairly quickly. no attention is good attention if you're counting.

Speaking of basic strategy cards, do most casinos let you openly use one of these at the blackjack tables? I almost hate to admit it but as much time as I've spent in a casino, I've never played a hand of live blackjack. I'd like to play every once in awhile but I'd want to use the card for reference, even if it made me look like stupid tourist. I could care less what I look like, I want to minimize the house edge as much as possible.

yes you can use them, the casino doesn't care since basic strategy still makes money for the house in the long run. only stipulation i've heard before is not to leave the card directly on the table - refer to it from a shirt pocket or your non-betting hand if the floorperson requires you to. surveillance sometimes don't want unusual, colorful items on their recordings of the felt.

and don't worry about looking "stupid" in front of other players using the chart. if anything, the casino will know that you will be playing better than 99% of the typical BJ players who are TRULY stupid for not even being aware of basic strategy. you may even be called upon to help your neighboring gamblers make decisions as well.
