March 16, but all it is a prelimary hearing on whether they should be charged with a crime and what crime. Usually, prosecution prevails at these hearings like 99% I think.

If the PPA were to wade into the Neteller situation they would only be exposing how ineffectual they really are.
My guess is that they know this and so are purposefully staying as far away as possible. |

The people who are involved in the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) have our best interests at heart, but since they have no "pull" whatsoever with the crooked politicians, they are of very little use.
The horse racing industry, tobacco/alcohol lobbies, etc, have "anted" up for quite a long time filling political coffers with cash and have proven that enough money buys government access. Sites like Party Poker, Poker Stars, Pinnacle Sports, etc, had plenty of extra cash lying around but simply refused to pay for the access because they thought they were out of reach being based offshore. Unfortunately, for all of us, they were wrong. |

Unfortunately, for all of us, they were wrong. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly.... I sent an email to all the major sites immediately after the UIGEA passed through the House (well before it was law) urging them to form a coalition (or just pony up on their own) and back a top lobbying firm in Washington to fight this... The lobbyists would have had myriad ways to attack the absurdity of this bill. At worst case they would have gotten a carveout for poker... It would have taken a large chunk of money considering all the big players that were in favor of the UIGEA, but in reality a mere pittance compared to what they have cost themselves... The lobbyists have all the power in Washington. None of these sites had any clue as to how US laws are passed. They made the fatal mistake of thinking it might be based on some sort of sound rationale... |

Here's an article written back in 2000 which shows how long Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) has been trying to push this crap through.
http://partners.nytimes.com/library/.../14gamble.html Here's another showing how the horse racing industry managed to obtain a "CARVE OUT" via contributions directly to Bob Goodlatte. http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...5/ai_n16760644 Finally, here's a 3rd link of Bill Frist accepting $50,000 of money from Harrah's Entertainment. http://www.betsup.com/ The horse racing and casino industries knew what they were doing when they contributed all this money to Goodlatte and Frist year after year even though they knew both men were trying to pass strong anti-gambling legislation. If Goodlatte/Frist really thought that gambling destroys families, why would they accept all this money from the horse racing/casino gambling industries? Many prominent actors/actresses like to play poker and the PPA should try and get as many of these entertainers as possible to stand up and show the country what hypocrites Goodlatte and Frist really are. |

[/ QUOTE ] I always thought the same thing. There are also lots of sports stars who also enjoy playing although I am not sure it would be in their best interest support online poker. It was always neat that David Wells would were pokerstars hats and shirts during his post game press conferences. |
