Default $2K triple draw tournament this January

In this month's Card Player magazine there is an ad for the Jack Binion WSOP Circuit event in Tunica. It says there is a $2000+80 limit "3 Draw Low-ball" event on January 17th at 2pm. (At the Grand Casino Resort.)

Tempting, but I don't think I'll be going. But nice to see some variety; most of the other 'circuit' events are NLHE only.

If I were confident in being able to travel, I'd so play in this, even though I'm ridiculously underbankrolled for it. Not to mention a few days away from MN in January as a side benefit.

There's also a $3000+100 HORSE tourney.

Yeah, it's cool that the WSOPC in Tunica remembered that there are other games besides NLHE.

I won't be playing the TDL for two reasons: the date is one week too late for me to be off of work and the buy-in is too large for me by about one order of magnitude

The HORSE is a $3K buy-in, so it looks like the TD and HORSE are geared towards a smaller and more elite field. I guess they want to keep the donks in the NLHE tourneys.

The $550 Omaha/8 on Jan. 12th is somewhat tempting, but my O/8 game has been poor lately.

Interesting that there is TD (and some others like HORSE) in the WSOPC event, while the concurrent WPT event is all NLHE. The WPT usually has a bit more variety with events like the LAPC and Legends, but they're going through a big NLHE-only stretch right now.

fwiw those thinking about playing this TD event should seriously reconsider (unless you can really afford it without sneezing) because i doubt you'll have much edge in these exclusive large buy-in specialty events vs probably top notch players.

yeah, there's so much luck in TD that the winner is just going to be the guy who catches cards out his ass. then again, that guy usually wins in NLHE too.

I don't see how this is any more exclusive than any other tournament? While I see your point, it's not like most people here have all that much of an edge in NLHE tourneys either.

I think a good argument that someone who has played a lot of TD tourneys (even low buyin ones) and adapted well might have an edge over even strong cash game players. (But the field is certainly not going to be full of the usual B2B donks.)

Yeah, it's not like this is the $5k rebuy NL 2-7 WSOP event. $2k really isn't a high buyin for a WSOP Circuit event.

I'd be more worried about nobody showing up, given that it's running against a $1500 limit holdem tourney and a $1000 NLHE supersat. Anybody who's purely interested in EV isn't going to be playing triple draw.

Another aspect is that none of our lifetimes will be long enough to reach the long term in TD multis. So fretting over whether you're slightly +ev or slightly -ev seems silly.

low buy in TD tourneys? when have you ever ever seen this? the only people who play TD tourneys are people who can actually play the game. you are not going to see typical TD donks playing these. if you play in this particular event (or most any other TD event) there will be little to no dead money and imo would only attract the best of players.

I've won two of them, and cash pretty regularly.
