1/45 KK MP1 how was my turn bet
Hi, I've been a regular reader of this forum, and am a recreational Poker player who doesn't imagine going pro within another 10 years...
Situation: one of the first 10 hands in the tourney. I doubled up because I had Aces only a few hands before. I haven't been active at all, Villain is calling a lot. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed) internettexasholdem.com UTG+1 (Villain)/ (t1640) Hero (t3010) MP2 (t1470) MP3 (t1470) CO (t1470) Button (t2210) SB (t740) BB (t10) UTG (t1480) Preflop: Hero is MP1 with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 (Villain)/ calls t20, Hero raises to t100, 6 folds, UTG+1 (Villain)/ calls t80. Flop: (t220) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Villain bets t100, Hero raises to t460, Villain calls t360. Turn: (t1140) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Villain checks, Hero bets t600, Villain raises to t1080, Hero calls t480. Final Pot: t3300 Comments would be very much appreciated. |

Easy call. Oh...the turn bet. Sure, whatever gets all his chips in.

Just put him all-in on the turn. Other than that, I like your line on all streets. Now call.

I mean here. I would have bet all-in instead of t600 here. [/ QUOTE ] I thought I was either up against AA (very unlikly) or I was a huge favourite. I didn't want to give him the odds to call for a straight draw, that's why I chose this amount. Didn't mind him raising all-in though. |

I'd put him all in on the turn, don't give anymore free cards if he has any draw

Re: 1/45 KK MP1 how was my turn bet
Ok I can see your lines of thought of putting him all-in, but betting 600 at a 1080 stack pretty much gives him the option to fold or raise all-in.
Perhaps I'm trying to be to smart, but I thought the 600 would scare him less than an all-in. I wanted him to go all-in. |

Re: 1/45 KK MP1 how was my turn bet
While your line of thinking works well against non-thinking players, it won't ever work against someone who thinks.
A thinking player with your opponents stack-size would realize that if he moved All-In, it could only be for value because he has Zero fold equity. However, I don't think your line is bad against non-thinking players. I see them do this often not realizing that there is zero chance of you folding. |

Re: 1/45 KK MP1 how was my turn bet
Thank you for the comment shermn27. But wouldn't a thinking player know that the 600 represents a bet to not let him draw?
It's a bit of a cash-game argument, but does it hold? I'm playing pretty straight forward ABC poker I suppose on these small levels, and I think I may be trying to outsmart myself sometimes. |
