If you want to play Downtown and don't have a car take th Duce bus. Its safe and very convenient. I'd also recommend exploring the locals spots such as Sams Town, or Palace Station.

Haha, the Deuce is anything but convenient. Worst experience ever...but it is definitely cheap if you can stand the wait to get to your destination.

thx man. i checked in that vegas maps thread and the only place that seems to be within walking distance of mirage is imperial palace, am i right? im assuming all the good places are nowhere near the mirage.

btw whats the weather like in vegas these days?

[/ QUOTE ]

Weather is below normal right now thanks to nothing but 30mph winds the past 4 days. It's been in the 50's. Average is 70's right now though.

Casino Royale sucks now for bj too. They might have 1 or 2 shoe games left and the rest are the 6:5 crapjack.

Barbary Coast changeover is still pending with the NGC, so it might still have the same dd games. I'd give a call there and ask to speak to a pit manager to be sure.

Stay away from anything Harrahs owns. IP, Flamingo, Harrahs, Ballys, Caesars, Paris, ect.. Enough said on staying away from Walma..err..Harrahs.

Go to the Gambler's Book Store, pick up a copy of Stanford Wong's Current Blackjack News for a couple of bucks.

A complete listing of the CURRENT games, rules, limits, and conditions at every casino. Saves you a lot of time and shoe leather.

It depends on how you define walking distance. I was in Vegas in December and walked from the Luxor to Sahara, so pretty much the length of the strip. The weather was pretty much ideal for me, but you should still be able to get to the places taht are reasonably close by assuming that you are reasonably mobile.

You could also check out the Monorail. I have not taken this myself, but it seems like a reasonably priced alternative to cabs.

Still my favorite mode of transportation on the strip and its only like 4 bucks one way or something. I've gotten drunk at Venetian, walked past the 1 hours + cab line to Harrahs and took the rail back to MGM where I ended up passing out in my buddies room till I sobered up to drive home. <3 the monorail

Take a walk through The Flamingo, to their pool house. They have four or so tables, and a tiny craps table. $5 min bets during the day, nice staff, and a complete oblivion to card counting. We were getting drunk and just playing basic strategy, but this shady guy next to me was so obviously counting. He even had the little basic strategy card out, would pretend to look up a hand, then do something completely nonstandard. He did it for about 2 hours too, and not one dealer (or the floor) noticed. And yes, he was winning.

Also, you might actually get some sun on your trip.

LOL that a guy playing a $5 table can count a six deck. LOL even more if it was the 6:5 pay single deck.

Forgot to mention that. It was a six deck shoe, paying 3:2.

the strip has the best rules in general, but they also have the higher limits. You want S17 and surrender on shoe games. I haven't played dd in years so I can't speak about that.
