After 3 betting PF, I would think that you would want to bet this flop. Why do you guys advise checking?

[/ QUOTE ] We bet flop: AK folds, a fair # of smaller pairs fold (Maybe JJ or TT call, it just depends). Additionally, we get taken to valuetown when he has a set, AA, and KK. Its a lose a lot (when behind), win a little sometimes (when ahead, he folds a lot) situation. He might fire turn with whiffed Ak if we check behind too. |

This hand has highlighted to me, more than any other of late, just how important accurate reads, both pre and post-flop.
In the actual hand he had Ad5d. Now, his preflop PAHUD stats would suggest to me that there is no way he would call OOP with this holding. But paying attention to the fact that I had been 3-betting him a lot in position, ie my image, and the fact he 4-bets AA/KK pre-flop makes this an easy call. However, I will admit that at the table this call was perhaps owing more to the fact I'm a calling station than the fact that I was 100% sure of these specifice reads. Without any read at all, we are folding here and losing a lot of equity. With partial, or mistaken reads, we may be calling when a long way behind. Its hands, and subsequent reads, like this that, although maybe not serperating the winners from losers, definately makes a difference of 2-3PTBB to your long term win rate IMHO. Now, I just have to start making these reads better.... Thanks for the advice guys. |
