Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
Did anyone watch this embarassment to society last night? The first guy either got wrong or needed help on his first four questions:
1) What month of the year does Columbus Day fall in? (he got it wrong and was saved by the kid's correct answer) 2) True or false: polar bears typically feed off of penguins (he looked at the kid's answer and went with it) 3) If a triangle has an area of 16 square inches and a base of 8 inches, how tall is it? (he committed to the kid's answer on this one) 4) Who was the 1st U.S. president to be impeached? (he was out of help so he quit and took the $5000, but all 3 kids got it right) |

Re: Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
I snapped the tv right off after Idol, if a show cannot get its point across with a title of less than 7 words it will not be worth watching.

Re: Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
Howard Stern has been railing on this show claiming they ripped off his idea. Also, that plug/lead in at the end of American Idol was horrible and shameless, but I really shouldn't be that offened considering I'm basically watching gameshows on fox on a tuesday.

I know 2, 3 and 4. I'm really awful with meaningless dates. I couldn't tell you when presidents day, memorial day, labor day, etc are with any certainty.
Show looks really funny and interesting IMO. |

Re: Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
this is really dumb, not many people need to know Andrew Johnson was the first president to be impeached, but fifth graders are taught it for some reason. Considering the last time I was "taught" this I was like 16, I can see why people in their 30s wouldn't know.
This is just another stupid show that equates memorizing facts as being smart. |

Re: Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
That show was weak, weak-sauccccce! Ugh I really get skeeved out by those "know-it-all" kind of kids. Who's raising these kids? Don't they know that in 2 yrs for them it will only be about chasing tail?
But seriously, not knowing any of those answers is not important since any1 can "sleep" facts. They were really playing it up how that first guy was a UCLA grad. I think the contestants were dumbing themselves down IMO. That game is a lil too easy plus all the help they get. |

It's in October. but it's the most inconsequential holiday who cares? [/ QUOTE ] We get school off for Casmir Pulaski (sp) Day here in Illinois...we were told because there is that highest concentration of Polish people in Chicago. But it really is stupid that we're 3 hours southwest of Chicago and we still got a day of school off for it. For my city, I'd say THAT was the most inconsequential holiday. |
