Default PokerStars: Returned Cheque 3978; (Australia)

I received and deposited a pokerstars cheque a few days ago for ~ AUD23k. The money was credited to my bank account but did not clear and it seems on Friday it was debited back out of my account with the transaction description RETURNED CHEQUE 3978. Anyone know what this means? Bank is not open today but I'll check what the problem is with them tomorow, I've already emailed stars and am waiting for a reply. It was a WESTPAC bank cheque so I'm surprised there was a problem. I have deposited these cheques before but never over AUD20K. Any advice?

Not sure if we want to be mentioning what banks the checks are from.
I think most 2+2'ers agree that it might be wise to remain hush-hush about it.

So please consider editing your post.

I also notified the mod so that they can look at it and use their judgement.

I don't think it would take too much investigative effort to open a PokerStars account, fund it, and then request a cash out. Surely nobody is going to take action on the postings of people on 2+2 alone.

This is Australia not US. Completely unrelated issue. That should be reflected in the title.

no biggie guys. I honestly wasn't sure and I don't know diddly about such stuff. I do think others recommended staying quiet about it though.

The fact that this is in Australia does change things just a tad.

Billman - good point. and stop calling me Shirley.

Hi Bob, I live in Australia too and play on pokerstars so I'm interested to hear how this worked out.

This is the response I got from stars. I hope this banker's draft comes soon...

Hello xxxxxx,

We have recently been informed by our cheque processors that there has been
problems with players banking AUD cheques since 08 Feb 2007. They are
investigating this problem further and working with the bank to resolve
this issue as a matter of urgency.

This problem is specifically between the cheque processors and the cheque
issuing bank and does not directly involve PokerStars.

In the meantime they are sending you a replacement banker's draft as soon
as possible.

We have used providers other than ‘West Pac Bank’ since 17 Feb 2007 and
these transactions will be unaffected.

I have credited $25 to your PokerStars account as a goodwill gesture and to
cover the bank fees.

Once again please accept our sincere apologies for the obvious
inconvenience caused.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance.

Best Regards,

Ajita
