Default holding AK to raise and call early-ish

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

BB (t1285)
UTG (t1800)
UTG+1 (t1820)
MP1 (t1570)
Hero (t1530)
CO (t3190)
Button (t905)
SB (t1400)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">UTG+1 raises to t200</font>, MP1 calls t200, <font color="#CC3333">Hero??

i run into this situation very often in early stages....so what im wondering is there anything other than a push to be done here??

basically im asking for some 2+2 wisdom for possible creativity, rather than putting tournament life on chance...thoughts?

What buy-ins ? less than 6.50 is a push . 16 or bigger we can create something (reads based) . For example : If a regular open with 200 @ 25/50 you only are beating AQs .

In a $16 I'd call and let someone stack off TP worse kicker; shoving seems like it folds out all the stuff we're crushing and invites coinflips.

Still a push in a 16 (no reads).

Buy-in ?

My default is to call at the $16. You usually get paid very well when you hit.

sorry: buyin: $5, very low, this is why im uneasy about flipping an early coin becuz i feel at this buy in i can do well with solid play later on

This is a good strategy. However just like in chess, tactics trump strategy.

You must push here because of the pot overlay, and AK has tremendous equity against the wide range of hands that the average $5 villain is going to call you with.

mike, also playing chess?...Nice

And yes, you should push AK, because that how you get most value out of it. I saw so many ridiculous calls with K8 and other stuff , which don`t pay you off, if they wiff...
