Simple AA preflop poll
This was brought up in another thread and there was some disagreement about the correct play. I have made my position on this clear in the past so I will chime in after some responses.
Assume a $30 buy in 400 person tournament with 1500 starting chips and 10/20 blinds. You have AA and you are MP1 at a ten handed table. It is the third hand of the tournament and you have no reads on anyone. Pick the best reply. |

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
How is this interesting? One should just make a standard raise of 3-4 big blinds here.

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
It really varies. On Crypto, I'd raise 5-6x. On Stars 3x. On Prima/Ladbrokes 4x.

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
I think he wants some1 to post as to the advantages of limping every hand along with most of the rest of the donks who do this the first few orbits in order to disguise your hand strength, I'm not going to vote because like registrar is depends on where I am playing (although I dont have the exact same #'s as you I do vary from site to site...) I am making my standard raise here, I'm expecting more then the average amount of people to come along for the ride but with the preflop nuts I want people to donate money to the pot that i have the highest % chance of taking down...

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
If I don't do 80-100 it's a bit over 100.
I'm going to more than likely get called in at least 2 spots, I want action but don't want to limp and see the flop 6 ways! |

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
No need to get too fancy on this.
That said, when I am playing a home game tourney with my friends and we are drinking, I'll often just open push AA for 100bbs, because 80% of the time I get a call. So it all depends. In a freeroll for instance, you could just open push AA, and it will be hugely +EV. |

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
assuming we are not playing a home game with drunks or a freeroll. I like making it around 80. not a big fan of limping and raising too much will give away a big hand.

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
I make it 80 here most of the time, sometimes I make it 60.

Re: Simple AA preflop poll
With the blinds so low I like to open up for a little more than the more standard 3-3,5x BB. Something like 4-5x BB (80-100) sounds about right. 3xBB may sometimes turn into a limpfest, while the slightly larger raise usually always gets action unless you're playing a superdeep tourney.
