Default Fifth Street Fumble? by Jeffage

"Fifth Street Fumble?" by Jeffage - very nice article (December magazine). I just got around to reading it as I'm getting into stud.

One question: the board on 6th looked like this:
Hero: (As Js) Ah 4s 7c 3d
Loose Player: (x x) Ac 3s9h 4c

If the loose player's 9h on the board was instead a Qh, would you have still called the river?

King,

Thanks for the compliment on the article and sorry for the delayed response here. This is actually a very good question and one I thankfully didn't have to confront at the table. I was getting just a hair under 12-1 odds to call the bet on 5th street. In the actual hand, there was some chance I was ahead when making this call. If however, the loose player caught a queen, there would be ZERO chance I currently held the best hand (since I'd have to make two pair if he had me outkicked, plus you have to consider the pro's holding and the chance that the loose player had a big hand on 4th). It would not be a pleasant situation, but I think that if he had caught a queen, I would have to had to fold despite the good odds.

Jeff
