TPMK on dry board against unknown

Flop: 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4SB, 4 players) SB checks, BB checks, MP3 checks, Hero checks. Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2BB, 4 players) SB checks, BB bets, MP3 folds, Hero calls, SB folds. River: 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4BB, 2 players) BB bets, Hero calls. Results: Final pot: 6BB BB is unknown. I limped this mainly because I had position and the MP limper is one of the worst players at the table. Or should T9o be mucked here? Shoud I've considered folding the turn? |

Re: TPMK on dry board against unknown
:grunch - of a kind at least:
i think your call here PF is a bit loose. T9o would be better against a large field of players than a small one. Your top-pair strength is fairly limited, and you've got no suitedness. If you like charts, T9o isn't even listed on the SSHE 'loose table' chart for LP...you'd be limping only two unsuited cards *greater* than T. So this was probably a bit loose. Would a raise here have been better? I'd probably bet the flop. you've seen no signs of strength and you have two OCs. SB and BB could be on anything, MP is likely on some sort of broadway offsuit holding, a PP that's weaker than 66 (or he'd have bet I'm guessing) or maybe a whiffed AXs flush draw. Yep, a fairly dry board. If you pair either of your cards you're probably winning the hand. If the turn or river is higher than your OCs, it's an easy fold in this big pot though. But beware them slowplaying a set. I'd think about raising the turn. Unless he's on JJ+, you've got top two pair here. If he's on that heart flush draw, a raise here would make his call incorrect based on pot odds. fold the river. villain is almost certainly on the flush. |

Re: TPMK on dry board against unknown
Fold this pre-flop, at least until you know what to do when you have top pair. Why didn't you raise the turn? Is your read on BB so good you know he slow plays trips?

Re: TPMK on dry board against unknown
spose i don't know for sure, true. would a call on the river be better? or are we still folding but for different reasons?
i guess i just couldn't see hero winning 20% of the time, and also because it's a pretty small pot, it seemed like calling this when hero is likely beat seemed a bit unwise. |

Re: TPMK on dry board against unknown
The question we should ask is: Why do you think we're beat?

fold preflop, raise for information on the turn, call the river.
villain flipped a 6, didn't he? |

fold preflop, raise for information on the turn, call the river. [/ QUOTE ] The problem with "raise for information" is that very few people listen to the information they get so generally it is considered the worst reason to raise. |

Re: TPMK on dry board against unknown
Everyone,
What's the river plan, assuming BB calls the raise and no one else does, then checks the river? Free showdown? Bet for value? What if the river weren't a heart? I'm thinking if villain's hand is worth calling a raise, we should probably check behind the river. If the river were a blank, it might be worth betting. |
