[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I find it pretty hypocritical that as the US is trying to combat internet censorship in other countries, while members of the House are trying to pass legislation that would restrict Internet freedom for Americans. Cup [/ QUOTE ] Standard. [/ QUOTE ] The U.S. government is attempting to stop Internet gambling because they feel it is dangerous and another way to funnel money for terrorism (the second part is true, regardless of whether or not you believe Internet gambling is dangerous). The Chinese government is censoring search results which talk about Communism being a bad thing and restricting the free flow of ideas. The United States has yet to do such a thing. There is a big difference here. |

[ QUOTE ]
One born every minute. ToT [/ QUOTE ] Ah yes, baseless anti-US comments alleging that I'm an idiot for defending the United States on one issue. When you care to respond with substantive data and arguments, let me know. I'm not a blind patriot to the States or anything, but the argument that the two types of censorship are wholly analogous is pretty stupid. |

I think you have a good point here. I do disagree with inhibiting internet gambling, but at least I do live in a country where I can disagree with my government and not have to worry about going to jail for it.
I am not convinced, however, than internet gambling is major conduit for terrorists laundering money. You will have to show me a convincing source to change my mind. It seems in these uberpatriotic "you-are-against-America-if-you-question-authority" times that "terrorism" is used to justify all kinds of bullsh*t. (But again, at least I live in a country where I can say that.) |
