Re: I am destroying my home game... (Long..i think?)
I was in a similar position with the home game that I used to play in. The kids I played with were flat out calling stations and it was reasonably easy to have a 5+ buyin night without doing anything special. With that said, over the course of time most of the players grew disenchanted with the game and constantly losing. Try to introduce some new players but not more than 3-4. And I definitely agree with some of the earlier posts about never talking about how much you've won or pointing out any obvious leaks in their game as they will perceive that as being condescending and will eventually put it together that you are flat out better than them. Additionally, I think it would be helpful if your demeanor during the game was just as relaxed as the other players in order to convey that the poker is secondary to the social experience even if it isn't true. Best of luck keeping it up :-)

Just drink more beer when you play. You won't kill the fish as fast, you definitly won't look like a grinder, and you will have just as much (if not more) fun.

Are you playing for fun and comraderie? Then GAMBOOL a little more!
Are you playing for money? Get new players, raise the stakes, profit. |

Re: I am destroying my home game... (Long..i think?)
You could try making your game a mixed game. My home game is a rotation of 7Stud, NL Holdem, PL Omaha, Razz, and PL Crazy Pineapple. Stud games would encourage your fishier players, as they'd win more pots and suckout more often. You'd still win ads much, maybe even more, but the variance of stud will mask it somewhat to the other players.

find more players, lose a little sometimes on purpose to keep them happy, this is what u need to do to keep these profitable games going.

Re: I am destroying my home game... (Long..i think?)
Don't lose on purpose, that's not good for anyone.
Try to get them thinking about things like you do. See if they will consider learning or discussing strategy sometimes. Tell them about some of the resources you use, be honest about your studies of the game and they might share your interest too and try to improve their own game. If they are seriously interested in learning, they will want to keep the game going as a way to practice what they've learned. The game will die if they decide that they suck so bad that they don't enjoy the game any more. |

Don't alter your play to allow "catch up"; you are just asking to develope bad habits. Buy pizza. good solution.

Re: I am destroying my home game... (Long..i think?)
the obvious play here is to get (a little more than normal?) drunk...
it achieves several goals.. --if you buy the beer, you're a cool guy instead of a grinder. --it makes the game lighter, with less emphasis on wins and losses. --your winrate may go down, if only slightly, because everyone else is drinking too... imo, this is MUCH better than softplaying or skipping a session...you'll probably still win money, just less than before. push some pots you normally wouldn't, raise anytime you see 52o...be a maniac a session or three, and your image magically changes from someone who takes people's money to a drunk college kid who 'gets lucky'... like a lot of posters in this thread, i've also been in the OP's situation.. |
