Re: Future of AC Poker ?
[ QUOTE ]
I can't see the train surviving since Greyhound costs around $10 after the bonus. [/ QUOTE ] I think the train is designed for a way for the casinos to comp premium players comfortable trips to AC. They have said that 25% of the tickets will be reserved for the public, but when the public doesn't buy them, I'm sure the casinos will use them. I think they train will survive, but very few people will actually be paying the fare. |

Re: Future of AC Poker ?
[ QUOTE ]
There are tons of PA players in AC. Day in, day out. [/ QUOTE ] Let's just look at this from the simple standpoint of AC would lose a percentage of the the closest metropolitan area and also possible some surrounding ones (DE, Baltimore, Wash DC, Rest of PA, possibly some of NJ) depending on the location/size. People don't go to AC for the scenery (well maybe some in the summer), they go there to gamble. If there are closer options, they will take them. Note: PA isn't going to legalize table games any time soon, so this really is a mute point. |

Re: Future of AC Poker ?
[ QUOTE ]
FYI PA players were leaving AC a while back for the foxwoods and other NY state property. [/ QUOTE ] This is ridiculous. AC is an easy day trip for anybody within 60 miles of Philly, which is pretty large number of people. Turning Stone and Foxwoods are most certainly not. |

[ QUOTE ] Say what??? I haven't heard about any direct rail line, but that would be awesome (I [censored] HATE GREYHOUND). Any details? [/ QUOTE ] Good article from today's Philadelphia Inquirer [/ QUOTE ] Thanks a lot for the link. Looks like it will be too expensive for me, and I bet I won't be playing high enough limits to get comped a seat. |

Re: Future of AC Poker ?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Now if PA legalizes poker rooms, that could be a serious hit to AC poker, but that's a ways away, they're going to see how the slots work out first (which of course makes no sense, legalizing slots before poker (well, it does from a tax revenue point of view so nevermind, oh well)). [/ QUOTE ] You overstate the amount of PA players in AC. [/ QUOTE ] This is ridiculous and pretty far from the truth - there are tons of PA players in AC every day - I'm there almost every weekend as are a lot of other people that visit this site. How often are you there? Once a year? Less? Do you even live in this area? Have you ever even been to one of the PA slot parlors? If so, when and which one? Penny slots? lol??? [/ QUOTE ] Uhh last time I checked scranton is RIGHT NEXT TO Pocono Downs (mohegian) and it BLOWS buying your beer and playing slots that have the lowest payout on the east coast. Please don't argue that point with me if you think there are slots on the east coast with a lower payout please I would eat my underwear if you could prove it. PA taxes the hell out of the slot parlors and the Gaming board in PA makes more than Vegas and AC Boardmembers. It's corrupt and the fact that louis denaples is in the business now proves that. If your going to donk your paycheck away on slots you would be 1000000000 times better off in AC. And if you don't think your going to see like an 8 dollar rake when the card rooms come in your wrong. People in Western and Central Pa might not have a BIG choice in the matter if they want to play serious poker. But people in philly and eastern Pa DO HAVE A CHOICE. I want poker in PA more than anyone. I moved to WA so I can play cards every day. I'd move back home in a heartbeat. And I'm sure we WILL get cards someday but not under the conditions you expect. The 10 dollar rake on a 2/4 game or a 20 dollar half-hour time charge on a 5-10 game is going to make sure the PA poker market never takes off. AC will be safe for many a coming years. Once again being the nit you are... I'll clarify There are NO 3 coin penny slots in the slot parlors. I thought it would make a good example of 3300 spins without a cherry but you obviously can't see that. What you have is 90% 45 coin nickel bandits (2.25) a spin which is 8.8 spins per 20 bucks. Hopefully you'll win 100 coins by your 80th spin. What else oh VP where you can play like 100 coins a hand on a .25 level..... oh did I tell you they don't really advertise it that much so if you hit the max coin button thinking you are betting 5 coins your betting 25-100. That's a shock when you get 2 hands for your 20 bucks. But all that aside i did find a 3 coins quarter "Wild Cherry" bandit and I hit a cherry on my first spin and cashed out a 1.50 winner. All this aside the main point is the Vastly under IQ'ed PA gaming control board that's making more money than the Vegas and AC control boards. Will do all in their power to destroy poker the second it hit's PA. This has been a very negative post and I want nothing more than a PA with a GREAT poker base BELIEVE ME ON THIS. I just don't think taxes owners and control board will let this happen. |

[/ QUOTE ] The 75% figure includes tickets bought as part of packages through casinos, not just those given as comps. The train doesn't need to be as cheap or as fast as Greyhound. It's aimed at people who have money to spend, think the bus is gross, and don't want to drive. And Manhattan is chock full of upscale households without cars. |
