i like everything up to the river push. pretty much for the reasons already covered. raising the turn would be ok but i like the call.

that was pretty much the range i imagined for him until he folded the river...i would never b/f the river with any of those hands and i can't imagine why he would

I think preflop, flop, turn are all A-OK. I mean, sure, you could have raised any of them, but in general, they're fine.

I'm actually going to go ahead and be the different voice on the river. I actually think its not bad. A few reasons for it. Firstly, a lot of players don't try to read hands, they just think, OK, i have AA/Ak, lets bet/fold the river.

Another reson is that there are only 2 draws on the flop, 78/45 and I would think you chuck 45 preflop. So even vs a player who CAN read hands, your range looks like set/89s, and most people don't expect you to shove here with 89, thats for sure! And I don't know about you guys, but I sure as hell can just flat call flop and turn with a set here. In fact, I would think i raise air/89s more on the flop than a set!

Lastly, the other reason I think its not a bad bluff is that he might even be 3 barrelling here, as turn cars is SUCH a good 2 barrel card, and when we just call here, we might look a bit weak.

OK, ONE more reason: you don't find too many players you want to stack off for 160BBs with 1 pair on the river here! And you know what? I think they're right! I would think that vs your river shoving range, they are in terrible shape with AA/AK

Turn bet looks a little weak- I'd raise there. This is very risky riv play, but I like it once in a while if ull do the same play with monster.

Question for those advocating a turn raise...is this with the intention of bluffing the river UI if checked to?

probably not, because if river bricks and he calls the turn, i doubt he's going to call the turn w. the intention of folding a blank river.

Raising turn sets it up nicely if you feel you can profitably bluff river, plus all your outs are pretty disguised.

As played, this isn't that bad. Some guys will bet like this for pot control with one pair (esp this deep), but others will just bet like 1/2 pot with a set to get paid. So you really have to know a bit about his bet sizes, but if he is the first kind then I like this play.

people always say this but it does happen.

1) since people sometimes bluffraise the turn and give up on river, it can be correct to call turn/fold river
2) he may have 78/45 himself and not give proper consideration to your hand range and his implied odds

What I don't like about this hand is that you don't have any information about villains hand. For all I know, he could have donked the flop with QT, picked up a draw on the turn and snapcalls the river. Or he could have top set. You risk a lot of money to win a small amount, so your play has to work a large percentage of the time to be correct.

And second: why not raise the river to 180 instead? I don't think that this will change his calling range, but it will save you a lot of money if you get called.
