Value of FullTilt Iron tournament?

Does anyone know how many people typically play in the Iron freeroll?

I am probably going to qualify for the Iron level this month. Normally, I would just take the extra medals (100 for Iron, worth ~$20) but am thinking about playing in the tournament instead since there will probably be fewer players than in the past - February is a short month, so fewer qualifiers, and some will opt for the bonus medals.

Before the medals option existed, there were 250-350 qualifiers every month.

I would guess under 200 for February, since it's a lot harder to qualify in 28 days and also at least some of those will take the medals anyway.
