Default Odds for getting each of the starting hands?

Hi,

Looking at a database over about 19,000 hands, I noticed some discrepancies in the number of times I got different hands. Can anyone direct me to an online calculator, if there is one, or just tell me a quick formula to figure out what the average number of times I should get a given hand, such as AA, or AKs, or AQ for the total number of hands. I had some trouble coming up with the formula, as there's different combinations of hands depending on whether it's a pp, suited, or unsuited.

thanks,

jeff

Out of 1,326 possible starting hands, pairs come up 6 ways each, suited hands four ways each and unsuited hands 12 ways each (if you just specify two different ranks, including both suited and unsuited variants, that's 16 ways total).

You can check that 13 pairs times 6 ways each is 78 hands, 13*12/2 = 78 ways to pair two different ranks times 16 times each is 1,248, and 1,248 + 78 = 1,326.

6/1,326 = 1/221, 4/1,326 = 1/331.5, 12/1,326 = 1/110.5 so you get any specific pair, like AA or 33, one hand in 221, any specific suited hand, like AQs, one hand in 331.5 and any specific unsuited hand, like 72o, one hand in 110.5.

Argh, you get 72o only 1/111... that's a shame

It's not quite that bad, it's 1 hand in 110.5. So out of 24,531 hands, you'll get 222, not 221. And it's even better than that, you'll get all of them when you're blinded into going all-in just before the money spots in the tournament.
