Re: Dubai = Greatest City in The World?

[ QUOTE ] Tall building does not equal best city. Here is a list of MY top world cities (note: i've been to all of these. I'm sure cities such as Vienna, Moscow, Rome, and Venice are amazing..but i've never been): New York Montreal Paris Buenos Aires Istanbul Beirut Hong Kong Amsterdam [/ QUOTE ] living there for 14 yrs i would have to disagree with you [/ QUOTE ] living there for 2 years i would have to disagree with the disagree-er. also, my uncle just came back from a trip where he stayed in dubai and cairo. he said that he enjoyed cairo much more than dubai. said dubai is boring and has no character. |

Re: Dubai = Greatest City in The World?
IMO, people and depth and breadth of activities make cities great. Looking at a cool bunch of buildings gets old really fast, and chances are that most Dubai residents don't swing golf balls off of the top of that hotel, or live on Palm island. Dubai is basically a desert not only georgraphically, but also culturally and socially. They are making big strides to make themselves into a real city by buying/making one awesome item of everything in each field to get some recognition in that field, but they are not even close to being a nice city... yet. |

[/ QUOTE ] True - the most obvious thing not mentioned yet (possibly because it is so obvious) is that a city that looks great from a satellite may not be fun nor practical from the ground. As "cool" as these future improvements are from 34,000 feet, what do their general cultural and infrastructural plans look like? |

[/ QUOTE ] It's obviously very objective for what we call, "great". The cities I listed where cities that I could consider great both to visit and live in. If it was just for visiting purposes, I think there would be a new list, adding more "interesting/crazy" into it: NYC Paris Buenos Aires La Paz, Bolivia Beijing Kathmandu Beirut Damascus Istanbul Bombay Vegas |

Re: Dubai = Greatest City in The World?
Heck - I spent quite a lot of time there. Emirates Girl = good time. The JW is a pretty good hotel in town and in their trade center towers is a pretty neat bar - but I was drunk and forgot the name of it.
