Re: What Movies Have You Watched Recently?
[ QUOTE ]
Aaron Eckhart did a great job playing Nick Naylor, a guy with probably the hardest job in America, doing PR for a big tobacco. [/ QUOTE ] I loved Thank You For Smoking (book was good too) and recently saw Aaron Eckart as the real bad guy in the film "In the Company of Men" on DVD. Worth a look but you may want to check out some other reviews. ~ Rick |

Re: What Movies Have You Watched Recently?
[ QUOTE ]
In The Bedroom (2001) I think this is one of Pryor’s favorite films. I'm sure he has done a review of it so I'll look and see if I can find a link. [/ QUOTE ] i haven't written one, but i have mentioned it a few times and, yes, it is one of my favorites. i'm a depressing chap sometimes. [ QUOTE ] What I didn’t like: The depressing nature of this film! What a downer. There aren’t many films that make me want to kill myself but this one came close. Just too depressing for my taste. The way Sissy Spacek plays Ruth… well, it reminded me of my oldest sister. Just painfully realistic. Also, what did the ending mean? Why did the photo of Natalie smiling with her ex have such an effect on Mat? [/ QUOTE ] i remember talking to my mother right after she saw this and her saying that's far and away the closest she's ever seen someone play a mother with a child that age. or maybe it was a mother from that part of the country. either way, she was really floored by the performance--maybe because in a lot of ways she is Ruth: a 50 year-old, artistically-minded, mother in Midcoast Maine. part of it is that the film captures so well that small little part of the country that's really unlike any other. there's so many tiny details of this film that Field and company took the time to get right where they could have easily glossed over them. well, the geography's a little stretched--it'd be pretty hard to easily go from Camden to Old Orchard Beach and back again before dawn in that scenario. by photo, do you mean the photo in the apartment in OOB? i think that just pissed him off. |

Re: What Movies Have You Watched Recently?
Le Petit Lieutenant. Paris is beautiful but this movie succeeds in making it boring. Shot almost like a documentary police procedural and suprisingly does not have the typical French philosophic dialogue. Nothing truly wrong with it only dry.

Re: What Movies Have You Watched Recently?
I have a 3-month-old son, so I don't get to see movies anymore, but "Elizabeth" with Cate Blanchett is a wonderful film.
