postgreSQL -- how to upgrade from 8.0? please help
hello wise software folks,
i currently run postgreSQL 8.0 and would like to upgrade to version 8.1 (or possibly 8.2 if it is supported by PAHUD). i really am not sure how to proceed. from the postgreSQL home site i downloaded the rar file containing the final full source version of 8.1: postgresql-8.1.8.tar.gz now how do i upgrade the version? i unzip the file into....? perhaps i am on the wrong track? any and all help would be greatly appreciated. also, will my data (my pokertracker databases) be affected by upgrading/installing the new version? cheers, sean |

Re: postgreSQL -- how to upgrade from 8.0? please help
2easy,
thanks for the link, much appreciated. i am not at home at the moment so will not get a chance to try it out for a couple days. as far as "why upgrade?" postgreSQL seems to put out a major new release every year. as far as i can tell the benefits are many and include lowered memory usage and increased performance in many areas----the list of improvements is long. link to version 8.2 release notes cheers, sean |
