Yes, using Google would have been more accurate but then the thread would have died too fast. Anyway, for those of you who want plain boring facts try this Cardplayer article.

There are no correct responses because the whole thing is an Internet rumor. Gold started it to try and trick the IRS so he would only have to pay taxes on 1/2 the winnings.

[ QUOTE ] This sounds like a joke. ... I don't know what the deal is. [/ QUOTE ] Way to open your fat mouth and make yourself look like a fool. [/ QUOTE ] What are you talking about? Those were both correct statements at the time of the post. I read the thread because I wasn't sure what was going on myself, but the first reply seemed a bit made up. In fact, the part you put an ellipsis over seems to be the correct answer according to the CP link in an above post. |

Sorry about that... I was pretty drunk when I posted that.
What I meant was, of course it was a joke. |

[ QUOTE ]
Gold tried to get a free seat from Bodog at the WSOP for a "friend". Since that didn't work, he wanted to make the guy feel better and promised him to share the winnings from his seat. After he won, the guy sued him for 6 million. I don't know the verdict, but I assume the US comedy court went crazy like usual. In Europe, where we have reasonable rulings on such issues, the guy would have gotten half of the expected value from that seat at best. Judging Gold's skill, it amounts to something like $3,75 before taxes. [/ QUOTE ] I don't believe any court would base a ruling on expected value after the event played out. If Gold had busted out, would the other guy have a case that Gold owed him $5K? Of course not. The "expected value" is now $6 million with zero variance. You have the facts wrong too. Have you listened to the telephone recording? |

He won 12 million, so half of 12 million is 6 million. I know math can be tricky |
