You're probably right. It's quite possible that I'm one of those solid players who isn't good. The problem is I make a good amount of money at .25/.50, so it's hard to tell if I'm good or if the other players are just that much worse.

aba said 99% of poker is playing solid. its prob closer to 90% though

baluga,

Very nice post. I'll add one of my mantras:

uNL opponents do not bluff nearly as often as we want to get them credit for.

Since this is a "thinking generally about poker" type post, and since us uNL people have the luxury of BW hanging around, let me ask the OP (and anyone else) for some specifics. Post a hand (played well, played poorly, whatever,) and instead of just posting the HH, post your thought process while playing. I find the worst part of my game is that I am not dissecting my play enough. Matrix posted a nice thin about all the questions he is asking himself during a hand. Do you really think about all those things each street? If so, let's see it. It will certainly help me out, and probably everyone here as well.

Here's a game of 5/10 NL involving two very good players. I think this is a great example of getting value out of a hand that most micro limit players wouldn't be able to do:

Full Tilt Poker
$5/$10 No Limit Hold'em Ring Game
6 Players
LegoPoker Hand Converter

Stack Sizes
COHero (BTN): $1310.50
SBHero (BTN): $1463.75
BBHero (BTN): $1730.75
UTGHero (BTN): $1505.60
UTG+1Hero (BTN): $1057
MPHero (BTN): $1975.90

Preflop: ($15, 6 players)
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP raises to $35, CO folds, SB raises to $130, BB folds, MP calls $95

Flop: 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($270, 2 players)
SB bets $200, MP calls $200

Turn: 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]] ($670, 2 players)
SB checks, MP checks

River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]] ($670, 2 players)
SB bets $350, MP raises all in to $1,645.90, SB calls all in for $788.75
Uncalled bet of $507.15 returned to MP

Results:
SB had ()
MP had 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (three of a kind, Eights)
Final PotHero (BTN): $2944.50 ($3.00 rake)

Baluga, about applying pressure, do you mean this?

(villian is a "solid" 17/9/3 over 500 hands, I was playing 22/16/2.5 on this table. If villian data mines I play between 15/13 (rarely) and 33/30 (also rare). AF ranging from 2-5....)

5 handed.
Eff. stacks ~$30

preflop:
villian raises UTG to $1, I call UTG+1 with TT, everyone else folds.

flop: 3:spades: 6:spades 5:clubs: (Pot 2.35)
villian pots, I call.

turn A:hearts: (Pot: ~$7)
villian checks, I bet $5, villian calls

river K:spades: (Pot ~$17)
Villian checks, I bet $14

Baluga you need more specific examples. Your post to me reads "play better" and I didn't find much helpful info in it, sorry. Maybe some better discussion will develop, but I dunno.

Thanks all the same.

Thats not what I mean. If you had 66, that is what I mean (except you should've raised the flop, haha)

There was a reason I didn't include examples. Poker is not a game where you have to know what to think, poker is a game where you have to know how to think. I just wanted people to think about these concepts.

If you want one example for each, fine, I'll do it.

1) UTG raises, you call on the button w/ 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
flop is K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. He pots, you call.
Turn is a 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] he checks, you pot, he calls.
river is a 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], he checks.
I would let the timer run down a little here and then pot.
most uNL/SSNL players would be afraid of pushing him off a weak hand. I am more concerned with getting value.

2) You pick up KJo UTG. You fold.
or
You raise A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG. CO 3bets. You fold.

3) You pick up A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] in MP. You raise, BB calls.
flop is 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
He checks, you make a cbet, he calls.

Turn is a 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
He checks, you check behind.

River is a 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
He checks. You check behind because A) you could be good, and B) whatever pair he has, he's not folding it.
