Re: So US Bank randomly decides to try and [censored] me.
US banks habitually check on expenditures using US issued credit cards when the expenditures occur overseas and hit an automatic flag in the authorization program. I don't know what all the flags are, but I do know my transaction was halted once when I was in the process of paying a hotel bill in New Zealand. I had to call the bank in the US, confirm it was me, and they lifted the hold. Irritating, embarassing and apparently standard practice. I doubt Internet gambling is a factor here, but I suppose it could be.

Re: So US Bank randomly decides to try and [censored] me.
Ok talked to the [censored]. Apparently the guy who originally called me was a complete moron and wrong about seizing funds. Though, theres nothing I can do about them closing out the accounts. Even though I have done nothing illegal and they agree they seem to claim that if theres any link to internet gambling it's their groups policy to close out all accounts and give a check and/or send the money to whatever account I want.
US Bank is [censored] stupid as [censored] anyways though. I was gunna clean out that account and make an ING or HSBC anyways...I suppose they are just expediting my plans. Whoever said why did I tell them I was an internet gambler was right. Bad idea. Though my mom originally made some implications about online poker when they called her though so I had no choice. Don't tell those [censored] [censored]. |

Re: So US Bank randomly decides to try and [censored] me.
All of you saying the banks are idiots for freezing accounts temporarily due to large, non-standard overseas transactions and checking with the true owner of the account before unfreezing it are extremely stupid and naive. The banks do this to protect themselves and to protect you. You should be happy that they have procedures in place to prevent someone in durkahstan or whereever from emptying your account. Grow up and quit bitching about this. It is for your own good. TS, OP, if they pissed off your mommy and you got in twouble.
If you told them you were an internet gambler, that was just flat out retarded. But be that as it may, it's your money, the bank has no right to know or ask where it came from. If they ask, just say it's from your business and leave it at that. If they're suspicious, their place is to call the police or the IRS and/or refuse your business. Freezing your account is totally out of line. Good luck getting your cash back. It would help if you had a lawyer call. Remember to remain calm and polite but firm. Good luck. |

[ QUOTE ]
why would you tell a us bank that you are an internet gambler? [/ QUOTE ] Because he is proud of it, and thought it would give credence to where a $60K check came from. Same as Tiger trying to convince a banker in South Carolina that they should cash his big cardboard check. "But I am a professional golfer!" |

Re: So US Bank randomly decides to try and [censored] me.
The real question is... Why are you using a bank in Ohio when there are PLENTY of offshore banks with international Visa debit/credit cards.
