Adding a 3007FP to my XPS410 setup
I recently bought a Dell XPS410 with a 256MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GS video card. I'm using it with 2 2001FPs and want to add a 3007FP.
What additional video card should i get? I'd like another Nvidia since i believe their software allows for some flexibity in monitor setup. Also, i'm hoping to set up the 2 2001FPs on either side of the 3007, and stretch my desktop over the entire effective 4960x1600. Is this possible and correct? Where should i purchase the card? |

Re: Adding a 3007FP to my XPS410 setup
Just head to best buy and get any nvidia pci card. NOT PCI Express, your machine only has one pci-e slot.

I'm sure I read on an XPS spec that it has 2 DVI outputs. Since a DUAL card takes up two, how does it all work? Bit confused
Thanks |

Re: Adding a 3007FP to my XPS410 setup
You need a video Card with 2 DUAL LINK DVI outputs just for the 30'' alone. (note that its not just 2 DVI outputs, each of them have to be DUAL LINK). I dont think there are any NON pci-e video cards with 2 Dual Link Dvi outputs. im not 100% sure though.
Also, some mother have 2 Pci-e slots (mine does). They have to be SLI ready. |

Bit confused Thanks [/ QUOTE ] My XPS included a video card with dual DVI output, enough to power the 30" monitor. However, i am currently using both these outputs to power my 2001FPs, hence i need more outputs if i am to add an additional 30" monitor. |

Re: Adding a 3007FP to my XPS410 setup
You need a DUAL LINK, dual DVI video card just for the 30'', and another video card with Dual DVI (regulars, no need for DUAL LINK) for the two 20's.
If the one video card you already own is DUAL LINK DVI you use that one for the 30' and buy a new cheap one for the 20's. If it is not DUAL LINK, you just buy a new one with DUAL LINK for the 30. |

[/ QUOTE ] Some bad advice given out here in this thread. Just looked up the your current card and it will support dual link dvi. So with that card you'll connect the 30 and 1 20 inch monitor. So all you need now is a pci vidieo card. You should be able to find one on newegg.com. This one should do: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130255 |
