Re: Stars: 0.10/0.20 V 0.25/0.50 Limits
Every time I move up in levels I play scared. I am not as aggressive, and I am way tighter, and play more tite/passive donkish.
This has the consequence of costing money, as well as confidence. In my latest jump to 1-2, I am trying very hard to be as aggressive, with the same VPIP and %PFR. It is hard, since htere is 2x more money in there, and if you lose half the buy in ($20 here) it seems to hurt more. But it is all an illusion. Buckle down, play our TAG game, and you will make more money. The only possible change to pay attention to is how many people call preflop, 50% or 30% or 25%, this should have an impact on the hands you play, and what your raising range shouldl be. Todd |

Re: Stars: 0.10/0.20 V 0.25/0.50 Limits
Ian, I dont think it is just variance. your comments about 0.1/0.2 dont entirely suprise me and neither do Muckers coming from the other side. Looking up can be daunting. Perhaps you should spend some time in the lobby looking at saw flop and ave pot size numbers for the limits in question...they are usually a good indicator....I just about always see juicy 25c/50c number if/when I do this.
I can tell you that I find the 0.25/0.5 games to ubersoft but that may be because Im only playing them as a diversion when i really should be playing higher. (Fwiw ive rattled on about the softness of stars 25c/50c games in the past and this is just another one of those posts.... ) I will say this...I see a high number of terrible players at stars limits 25c/50c and below. I see less of them at 0.5/1 and 25c/50c seems to be the the 'line in the sand'...is it a coincidence that you can actually earn FPP at some sort of decent rate at 0.5/1+, maybe Ian, I have no doubt that you are capable of beating 0.25/0.5....the thing is that, as Im sure you know, playing underrolled can cause you to play scared..and that is not what you want to do. Now, Im confident that most of what I just typed is what you are aware but indulge me for just one more sentence and let me say that you want to work on your table selection AND seat selection. Do that at 25c/50c and it will result in more BB for you perhaps you can find a $100, deposit that and then you dont ahve to worry about being underrolled....or if you dont want to deposit now but are prepared to reload if underrolled then you dont have to be so concerned with BR. gl Z |

Re: Stars: 0.10/0.20 V 0.25/0.50 Limits
Why do you want to move up? (If this question stumps you don't move up)
Do you aspire to play professionally? If this answer is no find out from yourself what your true goals are and be true to your goals. What do you think you can still learn at the level you are at? HINT: If your answer is nothing. You are probably wrong. What do you think you cannot learn unless you move up? If you can answer this question accurately it may be time to move up. How many good and potentially good players do you think have gone BUSTO because they were playing at too high a level? If the answer is many. Keep your bankroll management in the forefront of your decision making. Can you replace your bankroll easily if you lose it? If the answer is no or maybe not. Don't move up. |
