New Site Being Launched - Please Give Me Your Thoughts...

I play guitar and have always been interested in music as a whole. Recently, I have tried to come up with a few ideas that aren't related to poker in any way. Anyway, Sarah and I launched a new site today, which is basically a wordpress blog with a phpbb forum. We just got it up tonight, so there isn't any traffic yet.

If you play guitar or are interested, feel free to sign up for the forum, obviously. Let me know what you think about the layout, domain, etc.

Oh yeah, right now we are just using adsense for ads, but once I get approved by some music-related CJ advertisers, I will be adding those.

Looks really good. I'd maybe modify your menus a bit...maybe make the forum topics have their own links.

I don't know squat about guitar, but if Gibson is a well-known guitar brand, then it looks like you have a pretty good domain name.

The blog itself looks good, I like the color and layout scheme. What are you planning to use to make money? If you're sticking to just Adsense, you might want to try to include the ads in the content itself somehow, not just in the sidebar.

I like your $100 join idea, but I think if you want to make it worth it you'll need to advertise the site well before the reward date. What are you doing to advertise, if anything in particular?

I'm advertising on MySpace quite a bit, posting on various bands' pages. I'm also posting frequently on some of the larger musician forums around, with the link in my signature, and my avatar as the logo. Hopefully that will get some people to check it out. This site is going to take quite some time to get any sort of reasonable traffic, but once it gets going, it should grow pretty quickly. The problem is, it's very difficult to get people to sign up when there is very little posting happening in the forum itself.

We'll see what happens. Gibson is one of the largest guitar brands, so there are plenty of people who would be interested.

I love the header banner with the sunburst Gibson and the site name. Also, I love some of the pictures on the main page.

However, I think there can be some improvements to the site. I am a guitar player and if I go to a guitar site I want to drool over guitars. Therefore, I think that someone who comes to the site should be immersed in a gibson world. On opening the homepage there should always be guitar eye candy immediately seen without scrolling down. Also, I would have totally cool gibson audio clips like the main gibson site does. Finally, I would have a gallery of gibson guitars for the Gibson lovers to sit there and drool over for hours.

I dont mean to be crude, but it is a bit like pornography, if I were ever to go to a porno site online I would want to be dazzled by constant pictures of beautiful women. Text would be secondary.

1. You have a color issue on the footer of the forums.

2. Are you driving enough traffic at this point to make a giveaway for signing up worthwhile?

3. Despite the big "Forum Here" box on the main page, I "didn't see it" right away... not really sure why (Maybe a design enhancement needed there), but you should add a link to the forum in the giveaway text when you mention the forum, for easy clickthru.
