Re: What is in Sacramento?
[ QUOTE ]
The Capitol quit using the button-forced blind a few months ago. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the update. I was looking for info on it and couldn't find it. I liked the club but the blind structure and drop policy were a little tough to swallow. |

[ QUOTE ] Jackson is the only 18+ casino that I am aware of for several hours' drive. [/ QUOTE ] I think Colusa is also 18+ [/ QUOTE ] The bingo hall is 18, the attached poker room is 21. They used to have a great game, but last time I was there (almost a year now) it was 2/4 100 max NLHE with a $5 drop taken pre-flop. They also had a $100 + 20 tourney that was short stacked and blinds went from 400-800 to 1k-2k in a single leap. There are better NL games and great deep stack tourneys in Oroville with great blind structures. As for Colusa - it is absolutely horrible. I have not been back becasue it was so bad. I hope they change it. |

Re: What is in Sacramento?
If you don't mind a bit of a drive (half hour from downtown Sac), up I-80 East, right off the Highway is Deuces Wild. Regular stakes are 2-3NL, 200 Max Buy-In. Tuesday and Thursday and sometimes Saturday nights they spread bigger games too (5-10NL and on Tuesday an invite only 10-25NL(if there is a seat open, they will usually let you play, several pros actually show up to this game every once in a while)). Great card room with great staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Edit: Forgot to mention, even when they spread the bigger games, there is almost always a 2-3NL game still going. |

Re: What is in Sacramento?
For some reason Deuces Wild skipped my first mention. tastim is correct on all counts.
I have never seen a limit hold'em game running. They did have a 5/10 limit Omaha/8 game a couple nights a week this fall, but I haven't been there since October and do not have a recent trip report. |

Re: What is in Sacramento?
I would avoid the Lucky Derby and Phoenix. Both places were low limit nit fests when I was there. Cache Creek, about 45 minutes away has more nlhe and juicier games. I found the Cache Creek games to be well worth the drive.

Thursday they usually play a mixed game though... usually Omaha, Pitch and Roll and Hold'Em (sometimes they'll throw in Pineapple)if some variation interests you. If it's smaller stakes you're looking for, they Buy-In is capped at $100 from 12-6pm on weekdays (or until the whole table agrees to up it) and the game is fairly tight (daytime only) |

Jackson is pretty good now too since they finally made a real poker room.... Also, Cache Creek us like an hour drive from Sacramento, in which case you might as well drive just a bit more and go up to Reno or Tahoe IMO. |

[/ QUOTE ] I made the drive to Cache Creek from West Sac (Natomas) so it could be an hour from Sac proper. I should also add that the drive is not easy, the switchbacks through Esparto suck. That being said, it is still a better choice than driving over Donner Pass in the winter, that really sucks, and so do the low rent poker rooms in Sacramento. As for Jackson Rancheria, I have not been there since they opened a poker room, so I couldn't comment. |
