Why do people waste so much computer power running simulations with Matlab? As far as I know, Mathworks hasn't even released their multiprocessor of it yet, making dual quad cores a retarded amount of overkill. Tell you mathematicians to learn a real language (C, fortran) and MPI, it'll save them so much time.

And no, 8 gigs is not overkill for (some) mathematical modeling. I could easily jam that up with a couple programs I have.

Yeah most of the guys are proficient in C and other languages as well. I really don't know exactly what they program and I really don't care. I just build or order what they need. But it is nice to work for a company that doesn't cut corners in the IT dept.
