3 bet AK OOP and whiff
I am hoping this time I stick at NL 100. Here is a situation I hate, but in the effort to improve I want to see the thoughts. I am at work, so I dont have the exact hand history, but it is essentially described as follows:
Reads: My image is tight, and I have yet to 3 bet, though I have been raising a normal amount for TAG preflop (not 12/8 rockish). I am getting respect with my CBets and the table in general is not too aggressive. Villain is TAG-ish but is a little more on the loose side preflop with their raises and calling of raises. Hero has AKo Stacks effective 100BB - $1 BB Folds to CO, he raises to 4, button folds, SB (Hero) raises to 16.50, BB folds, CO calls. Flop T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Hero ??? I feel that many times that if I am going to get QQ and JJ to fold, I am going to have to fire twice, if they fold at all. They will fold AK and other hands they may call in that range that did not connect when I fire once. They are not folding AA/KK of course. In summary, it sucks being OOP in a 3bet pot with no draws and only overs, but how much value is there in Cbetting here? |

Re: 3 bet AK OOP and whiff
I fire a 2/3 pot bet on the flop and if they call or raise I give it up. Standard

Re: 3 bet AK OOP and whiff
c-betting here is a function of whether or not 99,77,66,55,33,22 are in their range here. I wouldn't count on ever folding JJ/QQ at $100NL unless you actually hit one of your outs.

I cbet here 95% of the time.
B/F $26. C/F turn is called. |

Re: 3 bet AK OOP and whiff
If you don't fire, you're giving up on the hand entirely OOP because check/call doesnt work. Thats a good flop if he's holding big unpaired cards (somewhat likely) and you clearly represented a good hand PF.
Fire once 2/3 pot and don't bother with 2-barrels against that read. If he can float you successfully against a 3-bet PF OOP and a 2/3 flop bet, you probably shouldnt have 3-bet him PF OOP. |

Thanks Everyone.

You gotta bet, if you get any resistance fold unless A or K hits.

Re: 3 bet AK OOP and whiff
That's the danger of 3 betting preflop out of position with AK - if you miss your opponent often won't fold on a flop like this because when they called your reraise they often have a pocket pocket pair or AK at the worst. Just calling preflop, and check raising on the flop if you miss, is another way to play this hand. With that move you give your opponent the tough postflop decision and remove it from yourself, and you risk a similar amount of money.
