I just had my most profitable week. On Sunday I had a $2,500 downswing and felt like crap, despite it still being my best week. Why is it that no matter how well we do, we are always looking for that little bit more?
I guess it shows that it's not the $$$ i'm completely interested in, it's the winnings or losing, and how it forms my expectations of future enjoyment of playing due to whether i am in a downswing or upswing. damn human brain. |

If you are not looking for that little bit more you would not be a good player above low limits. Your competitive nature and fire in the belly is what makes drives people to be successful at poker and other hyper-competitive activites.

If good poker players never looked for that little bit more then the big game at the Bellagio would be 1/2 limit holdem lol. Nothing wrong with wanting to win more and move up in ranks. Just be happy your winning at the level your at and when you do it consistently then you can go for that little bit more.

Losing is and should always be upsetting. You just have to avoid letting it affect you too much negatively and try to continue playing well while not being numb to it.

Psychologists have actually come up with some interesting studies into the Poker world and gambling
Firstly, it is the thrill of winning that gamblers seek and it doesn't really matter the amount of money (although when it's mill's the experience is heightened greatly) but it's the thrill and adrenaline trigger that winning causes that gamblers seek. Secondly, most gamblers have 'addictive-personalities' which is true actually of everyone just that gamblers have opened themselve up to gambling, ignoring any social stigmatism and negativity that losing might possibly bring. This leads well into the next point: Finally, gamblers always believe they are the ones with "the edge". This is very much to do with ego-re-enforcement that occurs you rake in pots or make others fold their cards to your bet than any real risk assessment of the competition. - This is especially true of Poker - any nobody can outdraw a Pro and if they didn't they wouldn't return. Something to think about on the next horrendous outdraw! |
