whether this is true or not is almost always age dependent. I have very little equity in my home having had a mortgage < 4 years.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sure, I was talking in generalities.

Nevertheless, home equity is an asset and should be counted in net assets.

Just to be a nit, I would specify whether married folks ought to divide their total net assets in half.

Wow. Nice house. I would retire to Thailand immediately & run a bar for ex-pats.

As appealing as that plan sounds on the surface, I highly doubt Mrs. Treesong would approve.

God, I have to drive by these houses every day(I rent a couple blocks away). The location is so great for LA and the houses are so ridiculously expensive.

That house was perfect. Had it not been for a serious career move, I never would have sold it, and it is the only thing we really, really miss in LA. BTW, we got five offers on it in a single day, and sold it well above that price.

God no. I was a partner at Biglaw for quite some time, before I jumped ship to go in-house. I also timed my entry into the LA real-estate market at the exact right time: I bought my first house in '96 and ended up flipping houses three times before this one: we were HUGELY lucky in this regard.
