The only reason I would pull mine would be to cut someone up or stab them. Threatening them just gives them a chance to pull their weapon. There are much better ways to deter the villain here.

There's a fine line between stupid and hard. You can't say either way whether the two men mentioned in OP are pussies or not. Sometimes defusing a situation is much more effective than simply going ape [censored]. You should introduce your friend to this concept.
