A few things....

Many scientists are great "doom & gloom" types and can manipulate the facts to suit their purposes. A perfect example is this: Back in the late 1800's a well respected Danish scientist said that the city of Copenhagen would be faced a catostrophic environmental problem, one that he could not forsee an easy solution to. The problem... he said that within 10-20 years there would be so much horse poo, from all the horse drawn carriages, in the streets of Copenhagen that the city would almost be unlivable. Good thing other scientists found a solution to this problem.

[/ QUOTE ]

You say this like this is evidence of the silliness of scientists. Isn't a reasonable explanation that other people figured out a solution to this problem BECAUSE he made his estimates and exposed the problem for what it was? I have no idea if this is a real or apocryphal story, and it doesn't much matter. He did some thinking, realized there was a problem, and people figured out a solution to the problem. Sounds like exactly what I hope will happen now. I hope that all of the scientists who are talking about the catastrophic outcomes that will be caused by global warming are seen as 'doom and gloom' reactionaries in a couple hundred years. It means that their message motivated people to come up with solutions. They are the last ones who want to be considered 'right' in posterity.

Did DN/Gore say the over under was 50 years? I'll take the over for 2 million.

Wow, you guys are a stupid crowd. Do you really care this much that a documentary influenced someone? I can't even fathom why it would bother you so much that he uses his blog to spread awareness on a topic he thinks is important. How does this make him a nutjob? I don't understand all you lemmings that claim he's lost his mind, etc., just because he chose to comment on something that he had never considered before.

It baffles me. What the hell is wrong with some people criticizing Daniel for doing this?

Man, the level of stupidity in some 2+2 threads never ceases to amaze me. There was a time I used to think to be a good poker player you needed some level of intelligence. Sadly, it looks like that is false and any good primate (as shown from so many people in this thread) can make a living playing this game.

If only we could avoid them .......

Slinging mud at Daniel for being naive and overly idealistic without even offering up the slightest of counterpoints to the points espoused by Gore in his film is mitigated ignorance and stupidity.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mitigated by what, exactly?

the earth has been around way longer than we have ever been. why do people think the earth needs saving?
our earth is kicking our ass right now with all the natural disasters... we should be saving ourselves.

I saw it and I think it's a extraordinary movie (Documentary) and it deserves all the awards received so far. I hope next Feb 25 it'll win the Oscar.
