7x5 keeperleague with normal 5x5 but with k and bb added for hitters. 10 teams and everyone gets one keeper, for one year, and you lose the draft pick from the round you drafted your keeper in the previous season.

rosters are 22 players deep start typical 9 hitters, 2 sp, 2 rp, 3 p. here are my choices for my one keeper. what do you think?

mauer 8th rd
webb 10th rd
atkins 16th rd

[/ QUOTE ]

mauer is such a lock here it's not even funny. he's a top 5 overall player in this setup.

Top 5? Hardly. Not only will Mauer force the earliest pick of the bunch, but on average he would be drafted last of the 3.

You dont want the anchor of your team to be your catcher. Considering it is more hitting favored league, I actually would probably go Atkins, but if you like pitching, go Webb.

You can still grab a McCann or Martin or VMart in later rounds; Mauer is gonna be bad value for the sucker who drafts him in the 3rd round.

my initial intention all along was to keep mauer. then i was reviewing my options/stats from last season and thought i needed to consider atkins, and maybe webb. even though atkins is 8 rounds better than mauer, they are later rounds, so obviously dont have as much value.

thanks for the input.

Standard 5X5 Roto Scoring. You can keep 3 to 5 keepers.
Positions: C,1B,2B,SS,3B,MI,CI,OF(4X) SP(3X),RP(3X),P(4X), 5 bench

I am only allowed to keep a player for 3 years then either have to be traded or waived. The number of years I have kept them is located next to their name.

My potential keepers:
Vladimir Guerrero (2)
David Ortiz (0)
Ryan Howard (0)
Roy Halladay (1)
Matt Holliday (0)
Michael Young (1)
Eric Bedard (0)

I am 100% keeping Vlad, Ortiz, and Howard. 90% sure I will keep Halladay. Who should I keep with the 5th keeper?

Mainly its between Young or Holliday. All opinions are welcome.

the fact that the league is so hitting-centric and mauer is so far ahead of the other catchers is precisely the point. for a long time i've heard the argument that you don't want to build your team around a catcher because there's a huge dropoff to the replacement if your stud gets hurt. that just means he's more valuable! by this theory you can't build your team around pujols because the injury dropoff is too big.

i would probably take mauer around 10th in a 5x5 league; add in two more hitting categories he excels at, and where other catchers are quite poor, and he is worth even more. the 120 fewer strikeouts he will give you than ryan howard is a huge gap.

you are welcome to disagree, but this is a thread to ask me questions, so i'll voice my opinions, and i think it's a crime not to keep mauer here.

beltran, guillen, lee, morneau, utley, weeks, wright, bonderman, kazmir, jenks are the easy choices. i would also keep upton because he has a good chance of improving into a solid keeper.

i'd probably go with zito, colon, byrnes for the others, but it's not a big dropoff from them to the next tier.
