Default Pocket Ace Gent

Played a live 2/4 LHE session tonight. One hand, an elderly gent raised out of the SB, one limper reraised all in......it got capped 6 ways PF(I folded PF), by the time the turn came the board had 3Axx, the gent stands up, hands shaking and kept betting and Reraising it, by now it's obvious he has AA(to me at least), he is up & all nervous, a final 3 comes on the river, he shows down his AA and takes a nice pot. It just struck me strange that nobody really said anything to him afterwards. How everyone could keep calling him was beyond me. 2/4 though so that must be why. Tell? Short of pumping your fists I guess.

2/4. Standard. They had to keep calling just to see if he was bluffing.

Yea I guess your'e right. I still consider myself a beg. player but even I knew he had a monster right away.

PS. How about those idiot players always constantly rebuying for only $20 in a 2/4 game!!! I love em

I actually had a player rebuy for a short buy last night for $5 in a 2-8 spread, he then proceeded to cold call the UTG's raise to $4, and then went all in on the flop for $1 when he missed and was mad then all 5 players called. I had to smile at that one.

I might be buying in for $40 in a $4/8 game quite a bit next week, because:

<ul type="square">[*]I'm staying in a place with a poker rate that requires 5 hours of play.[*]They may not have the $1-2 game I want to play going constantly. [*]$4/8 may be their lowest game.[*]$4/8 is higher than I feel bankrolled to play for limit.[*]My limit game is slightly rusty so I'm not sure I'm actually giving up that much expectation.[/list]
That's a rare parlay, and good players don't generally play limit poker short-stacked of course.

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning here...if you don't feel comfortable at 4/8 I'd think you'd be better waiting for the 1/2nl than sitting with 5 bets to get your time in. I'd understand short buying for NL if you weren't comfortable but in limit you're only cheating yourself.

Think of it this way, you post the blinds nothing happens, 2 hands later on your button you see the flop with your table and a few players from the next table over. You have the nut flush draw that may or may not hit on the river. Why would you want to only have 5bb or less. What do you do if you miss and only have 1 or 2 bb left after the hand, rebuy or just quit? If you hit and manage a raise or two somewhere you're all-in probably costing yourself more bets from others.

Completely Standard.

Happens once every 8 hours at the table.

Given the number of 2/4 LHE games currently spread in casinos across the country, that means there is an old man with pocket aces hitting trips, and making a boat, and getting it capped with his hands shaking, sweat beading on his forehead, half the table calling and re-raising him all the way, about every 11.527 minutes (on weekends, the same thing occurs, only more frequently, about every 9.431 minutes).

Usually one of the players, who has called 3-cold all the way on every street, and re-raised on the river, exclaims "I knew he had Aces!"

its about the only thing they do correctly. That way by the time they hit the turn on the 2nd hand they are all in and dont have to pay more to see the river with their 3rd pair.

I learned about always having the proper amount in front of you twice when I didn't have enough to cap every street, it ended up getting capped on every street, I made big hands and missed out on a several bets cause I was all in by the turn. Never again.
