There again HU and a paired board are very different. HU, raising might be a slight error EV wise, but you might gain other advantages like a free card, maybe you've got a pair that adds value to your hand, or another draw that adds value. Also, your opponent might simply be beat already, so your raise/cap might simply be for value.

If people start getting crazy on a paired board with a flush on the board, it's time to start thinking...

with a paired board I'd say it depends on the pairs. Obviously the chance that someone is having (or making) a FH with QQK on the flop is higher than if the board is 266. I guess it comes down to how much you'd like to discount your odds taking into account board texture and PF action.

right. glad to hear i'm not crazy.

this hand was well played cos his equity was considerably greater than his contribution to the pot, the flop was unpaired, and as such he was drawing to the nuts. he also had BP (holy marginal hands batman!).

but the intelligence of capping the flop on a flush draw depends greatly on how much your contribution is to pot compared to your equity and the texture of the board. So as freteloo said (and I tried to say in so few words), capping flop blind on the nut flush is a bad idea.

marty, i have to disagree.
the pot is so large after button's 3-bet that literally any villain on a draw is calling correctly.
the turn lays 13.5:1 after we capped and it would have been ~12:1 if we just called the 3bet. not much of a chance here to let them draw incorrectly.

Yes, you're right. There is precious little you could do about this pot, it was going to get big no matter what. And as I've noted before, you played this hand correctly.

But the principle still stands. A bigger pot encourages villains to call correctly.

A bigger pot also increases the amount of money that you win when you have a strong draw/strong hand. At these levels, you don't need to try very hard to make villains make mistakes. It's perfectly okay for them to get some decisions correct.
