Due to temporary financial needs, I'm going to be forced to take a few months off from playing for any cash. Since I have this time away from the tables I'd like to enhance my play as much as possible. As a no limit tournament player I would appreciate a push in the right direction on improving my game, whether it be certain books, threads here on 2+2, or just playing more online play money. Thanks

To add just a little to my situation, I do already have HOH Vol 1 and am about halfway thru it with plans on finishing it soon before a second time thru it.

Read Sklansky's "The Theory of Poker". This should give you a good understanding of all types of poker. Read Sklansky and Miller's "No Limit Hold'em Theory and Practice". Read "Small Stakes Limit Hold'em Winning Big With Expert Play" by Miller Sklansky and Malmuth; you may find it interesting and it may even improve your no limit game...sometimes learning one game can enhance your understanding of another.
Nothing wrong with the play money games but don't spend too much time on them. The strategies that you can use in the play money games are severely limited so keep it simple. Bet for value, bluff rarely, don't be afraid to fold and you'll be a play money millionaire in no time. And try not to develop any bad habits that will cost you in a real game. |
