Default Beginners NL

I have not played No Limit in a casino. I have played limit though. In No Limit does the dealer say the size of the pot or the bet/raise? Do people find it hard to keep track?

My plan is to try Ed Miller's suggestion of buying in for $50 in a 1/2 game and start to get some sense of it.

The dealer will help you count out the bet or raise upon request, but should not reveal the size of the pot. Tracking that is one of the skills that will help you make better decisions than your opponents.

Start by just counting the number of people in the hand and multiplying by the amount they paid to stay in. You'll neglect to account for blinds and for rake, but those sometimes offset anyway.

I wholeheartedly endorse the Miller approach to learn. Since you won't have many decisions past the flop, you won't often need to track the pot for more than preflop plus a little flop action before you.
