Re: obscure MUST SEE movies
There are some great movies here. My obscurity radar is probably not very accurate but I think that these movies are all great:
!!!!!!!!!!!CAUTION I thought that 'M' was completely unbearable and would recommend that nobody ever put themselves through that torture despite the enormous role it has played in film history!!!!!!!!! Arthouse Creepy: The Reflecting Skin Action?: Love & A .45 Topical: Bandit Queen There are lots more, some more obscure, some more 'must see' but these three are those that came instantly to my mind which I've not seen mentioned. |

Croupier and Lone Star were both very good.
District B-13 I haven't seen mentioned yet. It's an action movie, french I think. Has some great action/chase scenes, and an interesting enough script. |

Re: obscure MUST SEE movies
Ray Winstone finally seems to be getting some recognition in Hollywood. Some of his earlier films are worth checking out. Nil By Mouth is Gary Oldman's directoral debut. Unstintingly depressing, reviewers said there was a glimmer of hope towards the end - personally I couldn't find it. I watch when I need to remind myself of why I left South London!
Also, not particularly obscure, but if you haven't seen Sexy Beast you're on the clock! Edit Reading the trivia about Sexy Beast I notice that "Ben Kingsley claims the character of Don Logan is largely based on his grandmother." I have trouble getting my head around that. |

I love Gary Oldman as an actor, and I like sad movies, but I like there to be something redeeming, some glimmer of hope, and Nil By Mouth didn't have it, it was just 2 hours of awful people in awful lives in an awful place. Ugh. |

You Can Count on Me is a great slice of life piece about a brother and sister, and is well worth seeing.
Not sure if it is obscure or not. |

[ QUOTE ] Brazil, The Killing, Persona, M, Rope, Fail Safe [/ QUOTE ] --some dudes who think obscurity is automatically attached to any movie made more than 10 years ago, even if it was directed by one of the most famous directors in the world or was extremely famous in its time. [/ QUOTE ] Kubrick was nobody when he made The Killing. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Wet Hot American Summer : This is about a Jewish summer camp in the early 80s. This has all the people from The State, Amy Poehler, Janine Garofalo, and Paul Rudd and Christopher Meloni in their greatest roles ever. I love this movie. [/ QUOTE ] not Paul Rudd's greatest role ever at all but an awesome movie nonetheless [/ QUOTE ] fyp, and on a related note, I'll suggest The Shape of Things, based on Neil LaBute's play. [/ QUOTE ] Paul Rudd was a regular in a low limit poker game at a now defunct NYC club. I had no idea who he was, but bdk3clash would point him out to me. He always seemed mildly depressed. Or possibly just stoned. |
