I'm thinking he could be check/raising that flop with anything trying to push me off an "aceless hand". Plus, OTB raises never get any credit. Still, when he bet the river, I think I should have folded. Thoughts?

Folding never crossed my mind. Either 3 bet the flop or raise the turn.

no way can u fold on the river, he could easily have A9 AT AJ or A3 or A2 for that matter (missed fd seems unlikely hed bet into 2 given read).

As played id raise the turn ur still well ahead of his range and BB isn't likely to have a better hand just calling on both streets (likely a fd calling two cold on the flop like this so charge him now).

if ur 3bet its pretty much never by a worse hand if this is a decent lag and not a maniac. U can probably either fold rite there but getting 12:1 id call and fold the river UI.

I'd throw in a raise somewhere, maybe on the river. Please don't fold. AQ is well ahead of the SB's c/r range here.

[censored] hilarious. I don't think I've ever had a post where respondents tell me my river call is CORRECT! I think I call down way too much, and have been trying to find more spots where I should be folding. Guess this is not one of them.

I'm thinking at the time I saw that SB was calling with any hand and that he may check/raise on the flop with a straight draw. So when both the turn and river could have helped him, I was pretty skeptical when calling the river, knowing that he could easily be calling preflop with any 6 and any Ax, making two pair. And after he showed that two pair, this hand just became yet another one where I knew his hand and still called down.

Problem: I may now be over-correcting and focusing so much on trying to find places to fold that I'm missing the times that I should definitely be calling down.

In regards to the flop 3 or turn raise:
Normally, in this spot I always just call down when raised on the flop. Too often I'm fearing that villain does have something better, and even if he doesn't, is it worth risking a bet just to get 3-bet and fold? Should I be folding if I get re-raised on turn? Against this opponent? These kinds of questions make calling down so appealing, especially against opponents who are basically unknown.
