14 remaining in the $3 rebuy. Villain seems to be a basic HOH disciple, though seems eager to secure money. He's mentioned something about a deal already.
30K-60K/3K I raise UTG (7-handed) to 150K with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Villain calls in MP with 900K behind. I have 1.4M behind. Flop Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. What's the best flop plan? --Nate |

bet out and take it down. 300k should take it down i'd think against a nit worried about moving up.

Degenrat--
Maybe my read was poorly stated. I think he playing ABC tournament poker, not notably passively, and happens to want to lock up money. I prefer to think of this as some probabilistic mix of unimaginative HOH, HOH+some weakness, and HOH+lack of fundamentals often found in the $3R. --Nate |

I tend to lead for a decent bet- 3/4 pot or so. THis is enough to take it down, or, if i am called, i am usually crushed.
If you do this, the board looks much scarier for him, as it is also monotone, but he has to worry about your big bet, and the hammer of future betting |

Against this kind of opponent, I like c/c a small flop bet and don't put any more in unimproved. It's pretty awkward, but people who are scared to bust out of tournaments will usually talk themselves out of a second barrel here.

Nate,
Do you think the type of player you are describing is capable of pushing a weaker hand than yours here? Doesn't seem that way to me. i think a bet here(2/3-3/4) has a strong rate of return. if you are called you obv shut down. |

isn't that line more expensive. if you are calling a 1/2 pot bet on the flop and he checks the turn how much do you bet? I think that's vulnerable and risks a ton of chips. worse more is when he checks behind. i like a straghtforward bet here for a couple of reasons. less risk is one of them.
EDIT: I saw you don't bet unimroved on the turn. I really don;t like that line. |

All--
Thanks for the comments. I'm about to go to bed, so I'll say this before I do so: I think moving in is the best play. A very good poker thinker independently concluded the same thing in real time. --Nate |
