How deep does one have to be in this situation or in general?

Why would pushing preflop be reasonable here? The pot is only $13. Pushing straight away on the flop seems dangerous as I would only be called if I am beat. On the flop there is $18 and I have $30.

The only reason I can legitimately think to push here is that the pot is already large and I should protect it.
